The state-owned company has completed welding the main line of the $2.8 billion Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano gas pipeline, including a critical River Niger crossing, moving the project closer to operation by early next year, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Bashir Ojulari announced.

The pipeline, first conceived in 2008, will deliver gas to northern Nigeria to fuel an industrial revolution, according to Ojulari.

“This is not just about energy,” he told reporters. “It’s about industrialization – fertilizer plants, power generation, and gas-based industries in Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, and Ajaokuta. We expect to see industrial parks spring up.”

The CEO also outlined production targets, forecasting a rise in oil output to 1.8 million barrels per day in 2026, with aims to reach 2 million by 2027.

He credited recent legislative reforms for allowing NNPC to operate as a commercial entity and support President Tinubu’s goal of securing $30 billion in new investments by 2030.
