America’s Democratic Congressman Don Beyer has sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s foreign policy approach, accusing him of recklessness, militarism, and using power in ways that could draw the United States into prolonged conflicts abroad.
In a statement posted on his verified social media account, the Virginia lawmaker said Trump was “drunk on power” and warned that the president’s actions were pushing the country toward “more endless wars.” Beyer argued that Republican lawmakers have failed to check what he described as the administration’s dangerous expansion of military influence and disregard for constitutional norms.
According to Beyer, Trump’s leadership style is marked by “foolish militarism, erratic expansionism and self-dealing,” a combination he said threatens both US democratic institutions and international stability.
He added that the absence of firm oversight from Congress has allowed the president to act with increasing freedom in matters of war, diplomacy, and national security.
The congressman pledged to continue advocating for accountability, peace, and adherence to the rule of law, aligning himself with fellow Democrats who have expressed concern over the administration’s handling of foreign affairs. “I will keep fighting for accountability, peace, and the rule of law alongside my Democratic colleagues,” Beyer wrote.
His comments come amid heightened tensions between Washington and several global rivals, including Iran, where Trump has recently adopted a more confrontational posture.
