Assalaamun Alaykum Warahmatullah Taallah Wabarakatuhu

Belief in Angels as an Article of Faith

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. We praise Him, we seek His guidance and forgiveness, and we bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner. We also bear witness that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His servant and final Messenger.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Among the six Articles of Faith in Islam is belief in the angels (al-Malaikah). This belief is not symbolic; it is real and essential to our iman. The angels are noble creations of Allah, created from light. They do not eat, drink, or disobey Allah. They carry out His commands perfectly and tirelessly.

Allah created angels with specific roles and responsibilities. Among them is Jibril (peace be upon him), the trustworthy spirit who delivered revelation to the prophets. It was Jibril who brought the Qur’an to the heart of Muhammad (peace be upon him). Without the angels, the message of guidance would not have reached humanity.

There is Mikail, who is responsible for rain and provision. Through him, Allah sends sustenance to the earth. There is Israfil, who will blow the trumpet to announce the end of this world and the beginning of the Hereafter. And there is Malik, the guardian of Hellfire. Each angel fulfills a divine task with absolute obedience.

Belief in angels reminds us that we are never alone. Two noble angels record our deeds—every word we utter, every action we perform. This awareness should make us careful with our speech and sincere in our actions. When a believer knows that his deeds are being recorded, he guards his tongue from lies and backbiting, and he restrains his limbs from wrongdoing.

The angels also surround gatherings of remembrance. When believers gather to recite the Qur’an or remember Allah, angels descend with tranquility and mercy. They pray for the believers, asking Allah to forgive them. What an honor that unseen, pure beings mention us before Allah!

Dear faithful,

Belief in angels strengthens our consciousness of the unseen world (al-ghayb). Islam teaches us that reality is not limited to what we see. There is a greater world beyond our senses.

This understanding humbles us. It teaches us that knowledge belongs to Allah, and we trust what He has informed us through revelation.
Belief in angels also increases hope and comfort. Angels protect by Allah’s command.

They support the believers in times of hardship. They welcome the righteous soul at death with peace. When a believer lives righteously, he looks forward to meeting these noble beings with honor.

Let us strengthen our faith in the unseen. Let us act knowing that angels record our deeds. Let us purify our homes with Qur’an and remembrance so that angels enter and bring blessings.
______________

May Allah make us among those whom the angels greet with peace, whose records are filled with good deeds, and whose faith in the unseen is firm and unwavering. Ameen.
