Rajab 20, 1447 (January 9, 2026)
Assalaamun Alaykum Warahmatullah Taallah Wabarakatuhu
“O SON OF ADAM – FROM THE WOMB TO THE GRAVE”
First Khutbah
All praise is due to Allah.
We praise Him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our souls and the consequences of our deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whomsoever He leaves astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad ﷺ is His servant and His Messenger.
“O you who believe! Fear Allah as He should be feared and do not die except in a state of Islam.”
(Qur’ān 3:102)
O Servants of Allah, Reflect!
O son of Adam! Reflect on your beginning.
Allah says:
“He creates you in the wombs of your mothers, creation after creation, in three layers of darkness.”
(Qur’ān 39:6)
You were nothing—unknown, unseen, unheard—yet Allah placed you in a secure resting place.
“Did We not create you from a humble fluid, then place it in a secure resting place for a known term?”
(Qur’ān 77:20–22)
You did not choose your form, your strength, your time, or your parents.
Allah fashioned you, protected you, and nurtured you in a place no human hand could reach.
“Allah knows what every female carries, and what the wombs lose or gain. Everything with Him is in precise measure.”
(Qur’ān 13:8)
So tell me, O son of Adam:
Which power besides Allah could manage this?
“Is there any creator other than Allah who provides for you from the heaven and the earth?”
(Qur’ān 35:3)
From Weakness to Strength
Allah brought you out helpless:
“Allah brought you out of your mothers’ wombs not knowing anything, and He gave you hearing, sight, and hearts so that you may give thanks.”
(Qur’ān 16:78)
No teeth to bite.
No hands to strike.
No feet to walk.
Yet Allah provided for you nourishment through your mother, and placed love and mercy in the hearts of your parents.
“Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the final return.”
(Qur’ān 31:14)
They stayed awake so you could sleep.
They fed you before they fed themselves.
Then Came the Test
O son of Adam!
When your strength grew firm and your body became strong, you forgot your weakness.
“Indeed, man is ever ungrateful to his Lord.”
(Qur’ān 100:6)
You sinned in private while Allah watched you openly.
You disobeyed the One who concealed your faults and sustained your life.
Yet Allah—out of His mercy—still calls you:
“Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”
(Qur’ān 40:60)
“Say: O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah.”
(Qur’ān 39:53)
If you repent, He accepts.
If you ask, He gives.
If you return, He forgives.
Second Khutbah
All praise is due to Allah alone.
O servants of Allah, reflect on your end as you reflected on your beginning.
*How Strange You Are, O Son of Adam!*
When you were born, the adhān was called in your ear, but no prayer was offered.
When you die, a prayer will be offered for you, but no adhān will be called.
“Every soul shall taste death, then to Us you shall be returned.”
(Qur’ān 29:57)
When you were born, you did not know who rejoiced for you.
When you die, you will not know who weeps for you.
When you were born, you were washed and purified.
When you die, you will be washed and purified again.
“Then he dies, and He assigns him a grave.”
(Qur’ān 80:21)
In the womb you lived in darkness and narrowness.
In the grave you will return to darkness and narrowness.
“From the earth We created you, into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth once again.”
(Qur’ān 20:55)
When you lived, people asked about your certificates and achievements.
When you die, the angels will ask you about your faith and deeds.
“Then you will surely be questioned that Day about every blessing.”
(Qur’ān 102:8)
So What Have You Prepared?
O son of Adam!
Prepare for the day when wealth and status will be useless.
“The Day when neither wealth nor children will benefit—except one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.”
(Qur’ān 26:88–89)
Say with certainty and truth:
“I bear witness that there is no deity except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
And remember the words of Allah:
“Say: He is Allah, the One;
Allah, the Eternal Refuge;
He neither begets nor is born;
And there is none comparable to Him.”
(Qur’ān 112:1–4)
Final Supplication
O Allah, forgive us our sins, conceal our faults, soften our hearts, and grant us a good end.
O Allah, make the Qur’ān the light of our hearts and the proof for us, not against us.
O Allah, allow us to return to You before we are returned to You.
“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression.”
(Qur’ān 16:90)
Remember Allah, and He will remember you.
Thank Him, and He will increase you.
And the remembrance of Allah is greater.
May Allah SWT guide us aright.
