It appears to me that Donald Trump wants to bail out from this war. He declared yesterday that “it was a waste of time” to put boots on the ground. I suspect what he would like to do in the coming days is to declare victory and then stop fighting. The reason for him to do so is obvious.
The Americans are running out of munitions, especially interceptor missiles. Trump’s Generals had warned him before the war started that they did not have the munitions to win the war. He nevertheless went ahead in the belief that the killing of the Supreme Leader would lead to regime change. That has not happened and will never happen when the Israelis/Americans made the Ayatollah a matyr.
The American bases in the Gulf States are getting hammered from all the strikes from the Iranian missiles. A sophisticated radar system at the American air base in Qatar, which costs US$1.1 billion, and is one of the main pillars of American surveillance in the Gulf, was destroyed by Iranian missiles.
Without putting American boots on the ground, it is impossible to win the war. You can’t win a war by aerial bombardment alone.Trump had hoped that the Iranian people would be his boots on the ground by rising up against the government. That did not happen. The idea of arming the Kurdish separatists and making them America’s boots on the ground is also a non-starter. This ragtag bunch would be slaughtered by the well organised IRGC and Iranian army.
You can be sure that when this war ends, Iran will race to make a nuclear bomb. And there is nothing to stop them. Iran would have learnt its lesson and realise that only by being a nuclear power, can they be truly safe from America and the Zionists in Israel. Look at our good friend Kim in North Korea. He goes around making outrageous statements, and if he feels like it, he lobs a missile into the Sea of Japan. The South Koreans and Japanese can protest all they want but they can’t do anything to quell his provocations.
What a pity the Americans started this war when according to the Omani mediators, the Iranians were prepared to forgo their nuclear ambitions in the negotiations in Geneva before the war started. So the Americans walked away from that perfectly good deal, and now will turn Iran into a nuclear power instead. Shakespeare would say “They have been hoisted by their own petard”!
