In Leicestershire U.K the Police have introduced the Blue Light Hijab®, a specially designed quick-release hijab aimed at improving both inclusivity and officer safety for Muslim female officers. The innovative two-piece design uses patented magnetic fastenings that hold securely during routine duties but detach instantly if pulled, reducing safety risks during physical encounters.

Developed in collaboration with De Montfort University Leicester and led by Detective Sergeant Yassin Desai, the hijab also includes an undercap for modesty, breathable uniform-matching fabric, and slots for radio earpieces. Already issued to eligible officers in Leicestershire, the design has drawn interest from other police forces, healthcare services, and private organizations, helping encourage more Muslim women to consider frontline roles.
