Interfaith Diplomacy and Peaceful Coexistence

All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Guidance comes from the teachings of the , which was revealed as mercy for all humanity. Islam is a religion of peace, justice, and moral responsibility.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Nigeria is a country blessed with religious and cultural diversity. Muslims, Christians, and followers of traditional beliefs live side by side. This diversity is not a mistake of history but a sign of divine wisdom.

The Qur’an teaches that human beings were created in different tribes and nations so that they may know one another, cooperate, and build civilised society. Religious difference should not be a cause of violence but a platform for understanding.

Islam’s relationship with other faith communities is based on justice and respect. The Qur’an recognises the spiritual history of earlier prophets among whom are Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them).

These prophetic traditions call humanity to worship God and promote moral living.

Interfaith diplomacy means peaceful engagement between religious communities. It does not require abandoning one’s faith. Rather, it encourages respect while maintaining theological identity. Muslims are instructed to speak wisely, avoid unnecessary hostility, and respond to disagreement with patience.

One major problem facing modern society is religious extremism. Extremism often arises from ignorance, economic frustration, or manipulation by political actors. Extremists abound in very religion.

But religion should never be used to justify violence against innocent people.

Islam strongly protects human life and dignity.

Dear worshippers, the mosque and the church are institutions of moral education. They should teach honesty, kindness, and social responsibility.

Religious leaders must guide youth away from hatred and violent ideology.

Young people are especially important in promoting peace in Nigeria. Social media has become a powerful tool. Unfortunately, it can spread rumours and religious hatred quickly.

Youth should verify information before sharing and avoid messages that provoke conflict.

The Qur’an encourages dialogue with people of other scriptures using wisdom and soft words in preaching. Dialogue does not mean losing religious identity. It means explaining beliefs respectfully and listening to others with patience.

Justice is a central pillar of Islam. Even when dealing with people of different faiths, Muslims are commanded to be fair.

Helping the poor, supporting education, and protecting communities are acts of worship when done sincerely.

Nigeria’s future depends on unity. Religious conflict weakens development, increases poverty, and destroys social trust. When Muslims and Christians cooperate, communities become safer, schools function better, and economic opportunities improve.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Avoid judging people by their religious labels. Character is more important than identity. A good Christian neighbour or a good Muslim neighbour is a blessing to society.

Islam teaches humility. No individual or community should claim monopoly over righteousness. Only God knows the sincerity of human hearts. Therefore, we should live with respect, kindness, and moral responsibility.

Parents should teach children tolerance. Schools should promote ethical education. Religious institutions should encourage dialogue.

Government should protect freedom of worship while ensuring security for all citizens.

In conclusion, interfaith diplomacy is part of Islamic moral teaching. The message of the Qur’an is mercy, justice, and peaceful coexistence. Let Muslims, Christians, and others work together to build a stronger Nigeria.
