The Swiss woman, Nora Illi (may Allah have mercy on her), passed away after Allah Almighty made her a reason for the guidance of many European women – especially in Switzerland, Germany, and Austria – from darkness to light.

Nora was born on April 3, 1984, in Switzerland and was baptized in the Catholic Church based on her childhood wish.

However, Allah opened her heart to Islam, and she embraced it out of complete conviction in 2002, following a trip to Dubai where she was influenced by the call to prayer (Adhan) and the sincerity she witnessed in Muslims.

From here began her journey of calling people to God in Swiss, German, and European society in general, where she became the talk of the town for years due to her bold intellectual, religious, and political views.

She began wearing the Niqab at the age of twenty and continued her studies until she obtained a Ph.D. in (Religious Studies) from the University of Zurich.

She headed the Women’s Affairs Department in the Central Islamic Council of Switzerland and strengthened her efforts as a committed caller to Islam (Da’eeah).

In one of her television interviews, she said: “I used to hold prejudices against Muslims, and I believed that women were oppressed in Islam; but later I found that Islam makes a woman a pearl.” She added: “Thanks to Islam, I started to feel my worth as a woman and not a commodity… Before I wore the Niqab, young men treated me like a commodity, and only my body attracted them to me. After wearing the Niqab, they started treating me as a human being.”

Her appearances in the Niqab on television screens and at public events caused a great sensation, and she was subjected to daily harassment and insults because of her commitment.

She defended polygyny (for men) and gave birth to six children with her husband, Qasim Illi (who also embraced Islam).

Nora Illi passed away on March 23, 2020, at the age of 35-36, in a Bern hospital after a long struggle with breast cancer.

O Allah , forgive her, have mercy on her, grant her a place in Your vast Gardens, and make her grave a meadow from the meadows of Paradise.
