This isn’t the United Nations anymore… it’s become the United Children’s Nations! Every now and then, a head of state gets up at the podium and says a few words, only for another country’s delegation to get offended, gather up its papers, and walk out of the hall—as if we’re in an elementary school classroom, not at the largest international organization supposedly responsible for maintaining peace and security around the world!
Apparently, these children are the ones governing the planet, controlling the fate of millions of people, deciding who lives and who dies, who gets besieged and who gets bombed. And then we wonder why injustice has become so rampant, why nobody can hold anyone accountable, and why international law has been reduced to nothing more than ink on paper…
The whole story started yesterday when Trump took the podium at the United Nations and began talking about his achievements and how incredibly great he is, as if there’s nobody else like him. Then he moved on to Cuba, taking jabs at it and describing it as a failed state, saying that its communist system is under unprecedented pressure, that it will soon collapse, and that freedom is coming to the Cuban people!
The Cuban delegation heard all that and decided to gather up their papers and walk out of the hall in protest against Trump’s remarks…
Then Trump turned to Iran and started talking about the strikes he carried out against it, claiming that its army and navy had been destroyed for the 23,571st time, and threatening it with destruction if it did not reach an agreement with Washington… So what happened?
The Iranian delegation walked out of the hall too, leaving just one diplomat behind to listen to the rest of the speech!
So, are we done with Trump?
Not yet… We still have Erdoğan…
The Turkish president took the podium shortly afterward and began talking about what is happening in Gaza. He described what Israel is doing as genocide, saying that Gaza has been turned into the world’s largest prison camp and a graveyard for children, and that the Zionists have nothing but a genocidal mentality that can never get enough of blood…
So what happened?
Exactly… the damn Israeli delegation, led by its representative Danny Danon, whose face is as obnoxious and irritating as a garbage bag, gathered up their papers and walked out of the hall…
Okay, are we done now? No…
Today, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took the same podium and began responding to Trump’s accusations. He said that America accuses Iran of terrorism, while America itself has committed acts of terrorism against Iran, attacked it, and killed hundreds of innocent people. In the middle of his speech, he held up a picture of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and the children from a school in Minab who were killed in a U.S. airstrike at the beginning of the war…
And, of course, just as you would expect… the U.S. delegation decided to walk out of the hall during the Iranian president’s speech as well!
Nobody listens to anyone, nobody cares about what anyone else says, nobody gives a damn about anyone’s opinion or anyone’s rights… They’re all like ghosts, seeing nobody but themselves, thinking they’re number one, and the only thing missing is for them to start holding festivals! You feel like you’re sitting in an elementary school classroom, with every kid fighting with the next…
And on top of all that, we have the whole visa saga…
Just imagine this: the United States refused to issue Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas a visa to attend the UN General Assembly meetings, meaning he couldn’t attend or deliver his speech from the podium. Yet at the same time, they allowed Netanyahu—who has an arrest warrant issued against him over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity—to attend normally, and he’s coming tomorrow to deliver his speech!
And the level of audacity goes even further: New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani doesn’t want Netanyahu to come, so Netanyahu made a video challenging him, saying, “I’m coming on Thursday, and I’ll talk about you all I want…”
And as if that weren’t enough, even Sudan—which has been suffering for years from atrocities and war crimes allegedly committed by the Rapid Support Forces—was denied a visa for its army chief and Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, as well, because he refuses to agree to a 90-day ceasefire with the RSF, which would supposedly give Hemeti and his militias a chance to regroup after suffering a series of consecutive defeats in recent days…
And in the middle of all these dramas, every president gets up and says the same thing: warning about the collapse of the international order, stressing the need to respect international law, end wars, and protect civilians…
And what’s the result? The wars are still going on, civilians are still being targeted, disagreements between countries are increasing, and the Security Council remains unable to take a united or effective position on any issue…
And here’s the question… Why exactly do we gather the world’s presidents and leaders in New York every year?!
So that each one can give a speech, anyone who doesn’t like what’s being said can walk out, whoever is angry with another country can refuse to issue its president a visa, whoever has a dispute with another country can sit there threatening it from the podium, and then everyone goes back home and we come back next year to put on the same show all over again?!
Where are the decisions that actually get implemented? Where is accountability? Where is the protection of civilians? And where is the international law they’ve been lecturing us about for so many years, along with the human rights that are supposedly meant to apply to everyone—not just weak countries?!
Honestly, I didn’t even want to talk about this year’s UN speeches in the first place, because I knew they wouldn’t be worth a damn. We’d hear the same nonsense we hear every year, then the whole thing would be over and everyone would go back to continuing the exact same policies they were following before the conference!
That’s why I have a very simple suggestion for the people in charge of this conference… Instead of spending billions every year organizing this failed conference, securing the presidents, arranging speeches, ceremonies, and protocols, why not use that money to prepare meals or buy humanitarian aid and send it to people in need in Gaza and the many other places around the world suffering from humanitarian disasters…
At least people would get full from food… because words don’t fill anyone’s stomach anymore.
